Stefan Abingdon

With Lily Allen and Jamie T still hot in the mp3 players of urban England, the doors are wide open for the Indie-Hop superstar of 2007, and Stefan Abingdon is strutting up to the table admirably. His hyper energetic band is so obscenely alive that you half expect the Tazmanian Devil to arrive (in one of those mini tornados of course) and start playing the bongos with them.

So who the hell are they? Well, pinning down the “Abingdon sound” is a tough one. The teenage Londoner produces a rap whirlwind of synth riffs, electric guitars, samba beats and even answer machine messages. This is all helped along (and given a cool splash of female influence) by the vixen croon of Maya Yianni.

All together it makes for a sound that lies somewhere between Gorrillaz and the Mitchell Brothers, and will surely hoover up inner city music fans like an ant eater on heat. Catch ‘em while they’re fresh at:

MAY 4 WATERSHED, WIMBLEDON, LONDON (18 +)

MAY 17 YO YO @ NOTTING HILL ARTS CLUB, LONDON (ALL AGES)
