Concert Review : Graham Day & The Gaolers, Bongolian & Len Price 3, 100 Club 29/10/08
Caught up with Graham & his men, now including the excellent John Barker (who bears a remarkable facial similarity to Stockhausen) on bass guitar, at the 100 Club.

Media News : Russell Brand resigns
It's always interesting when top politicians get drawn into a fairly mainstream media issue. I can't help feeling that their comments on Shilpa Shetty's treatment in Big Brother were rather worthier than Gordon Brown's bizarre wading into the Jonathan Ross/Russell Brand affair. The cynic in me feels he was a little too happy to find a diversion away from the economic woes of the world. The irony of course was that the debacle drowned out news of stock market recoveries.

TV Review : A Touch Of Frost (Sunday 12/10/08)
Frost is back. In an age where only the young are supposed to succeed, it is good to see all the actors and characters enjoying a splendid longevity in this show. One wonders if the show has been demographically 'engineered' for this age group.

Album Review : Transparent Dayze - Angel Kaplan (Lost Recordings)
If Paul Simon was young and Spanish then he would be Angel Kaplan. Angel is the bass player of high energy Spanish crazy guys Doctor Explosion, and he has used the legendary Circo Perotti Studios (of Doctor Explosion singer/guitarist Jorge Explosion) to create the 6 tracks on this 500 copy limited edition 12-inch vinyl, available from Rough Trade & Sister Rae.

Obituary News : Rick Wright
Rick Wright a.k.a. Richard Wright was the delicately spoken keyboard player with The Pink Floyd Sound. In 1978 the first keyboard I ever bought was the Farfisa Compact Duo and it was a source of great pride for me that it was the same model that fellow Old Haberdasher Wright had created his ground breaking psychedelic meanderings on in 1967. I'm very sorry he's gone to the Great Gig In The Sky.

Film Review : Sleepy Hollow
As someone that does film reviews, I embarrass myself with famous films that I still haven't seen. I finally caught up with this 1999 Tim Burton effort on DVD.

Travel News : Penalties
When I got to the First Capital Connect ticket office there was nobody serving. The one member of staff had left his position to go and tell another (who has to attend the unreliable barriers) that he should 'penalty fare' a couple who got on at Kentish Town without tickets. I presume they couldn't know where this couple were going to get off, so they must have been doing this same operation at every stop along the route.
THE INCONSOLABLES PICTURESHOW: OBJECTS OF OUR AFFECTION
1. ED (PICTURED BELOW)
- Heinrich, whom I love like a stuffed son.
- A melodica from a Prague junk shop. Smells a little, but goes like a whippet.

Fantastic rendition of Stones classic by artrocking pioneer Patti Smith, whose voice sounds as good as ever on this track.
...Editorial incompetence at artrocker.com meant that the wrong Grates track was post earlier.
...I love this tune. Like Jason Lowenstein fronting The Thermals covering Sweet Jane, with Steve Albini at the controls. In their blurb, they state "we play with passion, and that's...
Weren't Nelson a soft rock band of the 80s? Am I confused? No matter.
...Untitled Musical Project - they pump you up like aural steriods. Untitled Musical Project go to 11.

THE COVERGIRLS
Best new band in Glasgow, by a mile!
...Francis Bacon
Any more snooker cliches?
...Q65 “Revival”
Second track sounds like a more snarly mid-60s Who. Excellent.
...Q65 “Revival”
First one sounds like Sean Ryder having a flashback but second track is a killer.
...Only By The Night
once you've drunk a bottle of Maker's Mark in Copehagen?

The more I watch it, the more I like it.
